Umm... wow does that time thing seem to go fast... and other weighty matters.....

Yet again I have found my blog and wondered where has all the time gone. Over two years since my last post... seems hard to believe. But it has.....

My kids are growing up so fast, Bella is now 5 1/2 (have to mention the 1/2 or she would correct me on that...) and Lukey is 3 1/2. He would be holding up his fingers for you to count. I realised that is about time I started writing down the funny little anecdotes about my children before I forget them. With my FibroFoggy memory I'm sure to forget if I don't write them down.

Bella started school this year and she is doing really well. Her reading is coming on amazingly as demonstrated by her ability to read the titles of the books found on the book case in my room. The other day whilst I was brushing her hair, getting her ready for school she read a title of one of the books and then asked "Mum, what does 'Up the Duff' mean?" Jochen and I burst out laughing, eventually I was able to get myself back together and tell her that it was another way of saying someone was pregnant..... was extremely funny.... I'll really have to try to remember that one for when she turns 21.....

This photo was taken not so long ago. So typically Bella. I find it so hard to take bad photos of her... she just seem so photogenic to me but then that might be my Mummy bias coming out. Lukey on the other is horrible to photograph. He is either not looking at the camera, blinking, pulling funny faces, not smiling or generally just doing everything you don't want him to do. The photo up the top of this blog I took at the same time as the one of Bella. It would have to be one of my favourite ever photos of him, I just wish I had more of them.

Lukey Walking

Lukey has walked before today but I have to say that today was the day when he really got going and did it a few times rather than the one off occasion we had before today. He was so proud of himself grinning and giving cuddles. He knew we were really pleased with him so he kept doing it. There will be no stopping him now. It took Isabella a full month before she was really walking properly at 16 months, I wonder if Lukey will be a little quicker.

Today was also the first day that I was really sure that Lukey was really calling out to us and was doing it on purpose.... "darrrhhhdeeeee...... muummmeeeeee". Knowing who it was that he was calling out for.

Finally, I have to mention "Quacker" before I forget. We have a little yellow bath duck that Lukey has become rather attached to and he calls it "Quaker". If he sees it he gets very excited and says "quacker quacker". It is incredibly cute.

Where has the time gone?

I can't believe how much time has passed since I last posted on this blog. When I look back Bella was so little when I stopped. I suppose I got busy being a Mum and didn't have the time anymore.

Things sure have changed since then though. Bella now has a little brother Lucas, more commonly referred to as Lukey and the second time around things have been relatively easy. Well at least after the pregnancy that it. I spent most of the pregnancy in bed due to severe morning sickness which didn't just last all morning but all nine months. But in the end we ended up with a very happy, content and funny little boy.

He is already one year old and is eating well, talking well (about 15 words) and has taken his first steps (although he isn't that keen on walking yet). Bella is a fantastic sister and she loves him dearly.

As for our Bella, she is now three and one clever little monkey.

I'm constantly laughing at what she says and does. This year is a big one for her as she starts three year old kinder, continues with swimming lessons and maybe goes into child care with Lukey one day a week as I possibly return to work. I can't wait to see her grow and change over the next few years.

Mum Mum Mummy - Yeah Yeah Yeah

Today Miss Isabella finally said Mum for the first time and then to top if off she then said Nan as well.

The conversation went something like this...

Isabella - "Mum mum mummmy..... nan nan nan."

I was so excited. She has been talking for so long now and still hadn't said it. Last week she even said the names of the cat - Ella when she saw her and made an attempt at Zakie our dog with 'ackie' when Jochen was with her one morning. I was starting to wonder if she was ever going to say it.

When I rang Mum to tell her the news Miss Isabella added another trick to her list.... I always put Mum on speaker phone so that she and Isabella can talk. Isabella seems to recognise her voice and always reaches for the phone and natters away back to Mum. Anyway this time Mum said to her 'bub, bub bub' and Isabella said 'bub' back. When I asked mum if she had heard it she said she hadn't so she said "sorry I didn't hear you Isabella. Bub bub bub" and very clearly Isabella said "Bub bub bub" back. It was if they were having a "bub bub bub" conversation.

Isabella is definitely getting the idea that words are associated with actions like "up" which I use all the time and she attempts to say with a sound that resembles "pppp", "no more" which I say and she confirms by shaking her head, and knowing that the animals have names. If you say to her "look there is Ella", Isabella looks for the cat and then her face lights up with delight as she seems to love all the animals. Isabella really wants to communicate with us and is experimenting with the range of sounds that she can make. At the rate she is going I think we will be having some interesting conversations by the time she is 2.

Head Down - Bum Up

Today Miss Isabella is 8 months old. I can't believe how quickly the time has gone in some ways. Our little baby is growing up so fast, it feels like only yesterday that we were bringing this little tiny thing home from hospital. About a week ago I started putting Isabella into the '0' sized clothes which are for 6-9 months olds. They are so big on her though that I have to roll up the sleeves and the length of the pants means that her legs are more than covered, but this is actually a good thing with winter really starting to set in, I can be sure that her legs aren't exposed and cold.

Although it is a little bit hard to see in this photo Isabella has started sleeping with her face planted into the mattress and her bum up in the air in the last few days. Apparently, according to her Oma, Isabella's Uncle Frank use to sleep exactly the same way.

It is funny that Isabella can now get her legs up under herself in bed but hasn't managed to do it outside of the cot in preparation for her crawling. The only way that she can get around on the floor is by rolling where she wants to go, she hasn't even attempted to do a commando crawl which a lot of the babies in our mother's group did. I wonder how long it will be before she starts to crawl - or even if she will crawl at all. I know that she really should crawl as it is important for her development but neither Jochen nor his brother or sister ever crawled and she might be the same way. We will just have to wait and see.
